Point Ellice House is in the Gorge area of Victoria. This area of Victoria does not have as high a concentration of heritage homes as other neighbourhoods, but it can boast about this National and Provincial Historic site. Built in 1861 in the Italianate style by Wright & Sanders (the same architects who built the Carr House), it is a small but charming home.

Soon after the house was built, it was purchased by John and Caroline O’Reilly. The O’Reilly family continued to live in the house for 108 years! Many of the O’Reilly family members were passionate about gardening, and the house featured (and still does) luscious gardens.

No family lived in the house afterwards, and it was kept as a museum since 1975, when it was sold directly to the province. It has been restored to reflect a Victorian style of decor. I have visited the home when I was young, but I would love to go visit again!
